“FINDING OUT ABOUT CHRIST”

wp17d6b288.gif

ALTHOUGH WE NEED THE HELP of God to repent and believe, it is most reasonable that we should. Sin is destructive to ourselves and offensive to our Creator. It is only right that we should acknowledge it for what it is, and grieve over the hurt caused to ourselves and others by it

Faith in Christ is also most reasonable. The logic of salvation in Christ is unanswerable. We cannot hope to be perfect: without perfection we cannot hope to enter Heaven: we need cleansing from sinful guilt to make us fit for Heaven: God, in mercy, has provided cleansing through the sin-bearing death of His Son: through faith in Christ’s death, the repentant believer is cleansed and fitted for Heaven.

In ourselves we are helpless and hopeless sinners. As such, we should throw ourselves on the mercy of God in Christ. If we do, we shall be saved! This is Saving Faith and it is by grace alone!

SUMMARY: True repentance is more than feeling sorry for our sin. It is willing to confess it to God and forsake it. The result will be a changed life! The disciples were to command all people everywhere to repent!

For salvation to be ours there must also be faith in Christ. We must believe the testimony of those who saw Him and touched Him. And this is reasonable, as the evidence is so very convincing.

But to believe on Christ involves more than believing about Him. It is trusting His saving death alone to put us right with God. Faith of this kind cannot trust its own good deeds to save, anymore than a drowning man can expect to save himself. True faith trust what Christ has done, not what we have done. The disciples must call on everyone to believe in the atoning death of Christ.
