WHAT WAS JESUS LIKE?

STUDY 3: PAGE 9

WE ARE SO USED TO DISHONESTY, greed, and lies, that we cannot imagine what the perfect man would be like. Also, an appreciation of our own sinful hearts will tell us that such a person would be no ordinary man, for no ordinary person could be perfect.

Jesus is no ordinary person. He is God’s Son with all the attributes of God, because He is God. And among those attributes is that of utter purity and holiness.

Widely broadcast public announcements, even among men, are reserved for undisputed facts of great importance. God was not only vindicating the Son they would crucify as a criminal, He was also declaring Him good enough to be both the Saviour and Judge of the world. There could be nothing more important than this.

SUMMARY: Only a perfect man has the right to judge a world of imperfect people like ourselves. When we read about Jesus we are reading about the perfect man. John the Baptist was the first to realise this. John was a prophet, but he still felt totally unworthy to even touch Jesus.

There were two occasions in the life of Jesus when God declared from Heaven His total satisfaction with His Son. No other person in the whole of the Bible ever pleased God to the extent that Jesus did.

This twice recorded public announcement of God is a clear indication of the utter perfection of Jesus Christ. It is no small thing to completely please a holy God.
